These birds are sometimes called hooded
parrots, monk parrots, or quaker parakeets. Their talking abilities
rival that of the Africa Grey or
the Amazon. They are very intelligent
and mechanically inclined. They can figure out how to open most
standard cage locks.
They can be very fussy little creatures. They
will go to great lengths to arrange their cages just right. This
is really nothing more than a nesting instinct. They are they only
parrots that actually build nests. So when you can't find your favorite
pen or eyeglasses, you may want to look in their cage!
Note: In the United States, Quaker Parrots are
illegal to own or sell in 10 states. These states consider these
birds to be pests to their agriculture. Make sure you contact your
local state's Fish and Wildlife department to understand your local
laws.
